Unakoti, nestled in the lush hills of Tripura, is one of India’s most mystical and underrated heritage sites. Literally meaning "one less than a crore" (i.e., 99,99,999), Unakoti is famed for its massive rock-cut carvings and murals that date back to the 7th–9th centuries. These awe-inspiring sculptures, etched into the face of a forested hill, depict Hindu deities such as Lord Shiva, Ganesha, and Durga, with the 30-foot-tall Unakotiswara Shiva head being the site’s most iconic image.

Shrouded in legends, one popular myth suggests these figures were part of a cursed entourage turned to stone by Lord Shiva himself. Surrounded by waterfalls and dense greenery, the area radiates a spiritual and mysterious charm that enthralls every visitor.

A blend of nature, mythology, and art, Unakoti offers a surreal experience that rivals India’s most famous rock-cut wonders—but with far fewer crowds. Whether you're a history seeker, adventure traveler, or spiritual wanderer, this hill of a million carvings promises a truly offbeat and unforgettable journey.
