Overview:
Gangotri is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage destinations, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. It marks the origin of the holy River Ganga (Ganges) and is part of the sacred Char Dham Yatra. At an altitude of 3,100 meters, Gangotri is not just a spiritual hub but also a stunning location for nature lovers and trekkers.

Top Attractions:

  • Gangotri Temple – Dedicated to Goddess Ganga, this 18th-century temple is the main religious site.

  • Gomukh Glacier – Source of the Ganges, located around 18 km from Gangotri, accessible via a scenic trek.

  • Bhojwasa – A serene camping and resting site en route to Gomukh.

  • Surya Kund & Gauri Kund – Sacred water pools known for their spiritual significance.

  • Pandava Gufa – A mythical cave believed to be where the Pandavas meditated during their exile.

May to mid-November (especially May–June and September–October). The temple opens in late April or early May and closes on Diwali.
