🏛️ Nalanda & Vikramshila: Exploring Ancient Universities
Long before modern education systems emerged, India was home to two of the world’s oldest and most renowned centers of learning—Nalanda and Vikramshila. Located in present-day Bihar, Nalanda University flourished from the 5th to the 12th century and attracted scholars from across Asia, offering studies in logic, medicine, astronomy, and Buddhist philosophy. Vikramshila, founded in the 8th century by King Dharmapala, was known for its emphasis on tantric Buddhism and rigorous academic discipline. Walking through their evocative ruins today, you can almost hear echoes of ancient debates and feel the intellectual energy that once lit up the world. These sites are not just archaeological treasures, but timeless testaments to India's rich educational legacy.
